About CableCoil

Cable is an integral part of our world and short of herding goats in the outer reaches of Ulan Bator is almost impossible to avoid. The problem with cable is that it is inherently untidy. It doesn't run in straight lines and has a talent for tying itself up in knots. We at CableCoil want to fix this.

Scenario 1. The mobile phone adaptor
The mobile phone is everywhere. 15m will be sold in the UK alone this year. Each with its own charger. A charger which typically comes with almost 2 meters of cable of which the average user actually needs less than 0.5 meters. The remainder gathers in an unsightly tangle on the floor, table, worktop or desk.

Scenario 2. The laptop computer
It's the era of mobile computing as well as mobile telephony. The average road warrior may have a modem cable, Ethernet cable, power cable and external mouse (with cable!) in his or her laptop bag. When these items are taken out of the bag they invariably appear as a ball of wool which takes 5 minutes to unravel and sort out.

Scenario 3. The stored appliances
Certain appliances are only used occasionally. The rest of the time they are stored out of sight in some cupboard or drawer. Items like hairdryers, hair curlers, food processors and blenders. When stored the cable is either wrapped round a handle (and promptly unravels) or is just left loose.

Scenario 4. The cables under the stairs
We all have them. Cables and wires from long forgotten appliances be they TV's, HiFi's, or Games Consoles that we cannot bring ourselves to throw out. They reside in a darkened corner under the stairs or in a shed in a glorious knotted tangle. If you must keep them, there is a better way.

Scenario 5. The stereo speakers
Music system designers believe in supplying enough speaker cable to allow you to run the speakers to the end of your garden. More often than not the speakers rest a couple of meters from the hi-fi. We use the cable tags to tie up the surplus but it is at best a very inelegant solution.

Scenario 6. The personal stereo
We stroll along listening to our favourite sounds with a great loop of cable dangling from the headphones. Its an accident waiting to happen as the trailing cable gets caught as we groove by.
